New York, NY, October 10, 2014 – Voices of Gotham is proud to announce Bill Stauffer as its new Director. Bill is an accomplished barbershopper for whom music and singing is a way of life. Bill will lead the chorus not only to continued excellence within the Barbershop Harmony Society but also to greater recognition within New York City.

“My desire as a director has always been to help create a musical culture where success happens personally and collectively, both in terms of thrilling audiences and capturing championships,” Bill said upon accepting the position. “There is nothing that delights me more than seeing a group of uniquely gifted people come together to create something bigger than themselves.”

Bill won the Mid-Atlantic District quartet championship in 1992 with his quartet Doubletake and has competed multiple times in the International Quartet Competition. He has directed several different choruses, served on faculty for Harmony College East, and has arranged for many quartets and choruses. Bill currently serves as Director of the award-winning Capitaland Chorus of Sweet Adelines International.

“I’m extremely excited to begin working with Bill,” said Voices of Gotham President Brian Lindvall. “His background, experience, and personality are a fantastic match for Gotham; we can’t wait to hit the ground running under his leadership.”

Bill will be replacing Larry Bomback, the founding director of Voices of Gotham. Larry recently relocated to Philadelphia after accepting the position of COO/CFO for The Cultural Data Project. Eric Engelhardt and Matt Gallagher will be collaborating with Bill as Assistant Directors. Cy Wood will continue in his role as Voices of Gotham's choreographer.

Bill was one of several highly qualified candidates considered for the position. A search committee, led by former Gotham President Braden Lynk, oversaw the selection process. After selecting three finalists and a round of auditions, it was clear that Bill was the optimal choice for the chorus. Voices of Gotham is delighted to welcome him into the family.

Bill received his education at Westminster Choir College, has extensive experience leading both traditional and contemporary sacred music, and works as a freelance musician and writer. He currently resides in Columbia, New Jersey.
